Talk With Diligent Uni Student

So I just had a talk with a successful high GPA 3 years university student on transferring from college to the psychology program at a university as well as pornography (mind you it's way better to start in a college and then transfer to university from there as colleges have smaller class sizes, more access to hours with asking profs for help or questions, and cheaper tuition fees). Gave him a Porn Kills Love card as well.

He's from Japan so I had a brief discussion with him in regards to otaku or "hikikomori" culture there, which includes how (anime) porn has a negative effect on many of the (male) Japanese people's social lives and relationship interactions with others. His stance towards pornography is that he neither fully supports it nor is against it. He also revealed to me that most of the professors in the university I want to get into lean more towards pro-porn. Well...I'm not that surprised considering the city I live in is overall liberal-minded...or should I say "neoliberal" minded. Good luck to me once I get into that university as I'll be facing A LOT of opposition from fellow students and profs. It's discouraging yet at the same time I'm kind of up for the challenge.

Dare to be brave. Dare to stand alone. Dare to stand for what's right.

The sad thing is, this hard-working student used to be more absolute moral-minded as he confessed to me...but as the years go by while studying in university, he became more open-minded...but so open-minded to the point where his morals and perspectives on certain things changed. For example, he used to be against polyamory but now he's open-minded to it (though he told me he personally wouldn't get involved with that kind of relationship himself). Another example would be he used to be fully against medication...now he kind of supports it.

He told me a couple of times that one day as I continue my studies within the university, my perspectives on some things may change but I made it clear to him that I hold strong convictions and that I for certain I wouldn't let go of my core values. He is correct though that I should be open-minded, critically thinking, and see both sides whenever it comes to research as most of us hold a personal bias, which is common among psychology students including himself in the past. I also told him since the porn industry is a multi-billion dollar business, they can literally pay people to lie including scientists to make up false research in support of porn in order to gain more profit...this he didn't entirely disagree with yet he argued that some porn actresses are pro-porn and are proud of the works they do. In response to that I mentioned how these porn actresses aren't fully aware of the negative impacts of porn including porn addiction.

He is aware on some of the harms of pornography and did some past research on porn himself...yet he disagrees with me that porn isn't entirely bad. I told him if you Google the definition of "vice", pornography would show up as an example and said that we shouldn't be turning vices into good things. I also told him how we're currently living in a society where speaking up for good things is seen as a shameful thing whereas bad things are being more seen as good. In the end, we didn't entirely agree with each other but anyhow I hope he is open to learning more about the damaging effects of porn through the card and list of compiled links (also seen in the description of my timeline cover description) that I e-mailed him. —Empress Cynthia
