The Science Behind the Harms of Porn

Snapshot taken from Macmillan Psychology 11th Ed. e-textbook on The Cerebral Cortex & Our Divided Brain

After receiving that damaging impact through the frontal lobe of his brain, Phineas Gage's entire personality and moral compass changed. He used to be friendly, sweet, soft-spoken, and well-behaved but after that traumatic experience, which lead to a change in his frontal lobes, Mr. Gage's personality made a 180 degrees turn: he became aggressive, loud, obnoxious, and sociopathic.

The same can apply with how viewing pornography impairs the frontal lobe of the brain (not only that but also decrease grey matter, an important tissue consisting of neuron cell bodies and glial cells within the brain, which is in charge of intelligence and decision-making). The frontal lobe of the brain is in charge of decision-making, short term memory (the effects of viewing porn is correlated with forgetfulness and low attention spans), morality, personality, impulsivity, and behaviour. No doubt most of the pro-porn people I encountered or debated with online for more than 2 years now tend to distribute rather aggressive or sociopathic behaviour (lacking in remorse, conscientousness, and compassion), verbal abuse, sexual harassment, hedonistic thirsts, as well a weak/unstable moral foundation compared to their anti-porn counterparts who tend to be highly empathic, less impulsive, eloquent, more wise, and well-moralled.

Fortunately, because the brain's plasticity (ability to constantly change and rewire itself), these negative consequential effects from viewing porn can be reverted (see how: http://fightthenewdrug.org/4-studies-that-prove-porn-addicted-brains-can-return-to-normal/)

Dang, science is great and so applicable in life.
